Alright – we’re about 200 days away from the conference and now we get started working with the pre-event team. There are seven of us who each have different responsibilities from designing print and online solutions (Fr. Chris) to booking expo clients (Josh) to planning the liturgies, marketing the event, coordinating volunteers, inviting speakers and a host of other things.

This team consists entirely of people who are doing other jobs! That’s one of the cool things about CatholiCon, none of us are full-time media evangelists, we’re all doing other work and finding the time to do this work as an apostolate… The organizers of CatholiCon firmly believe that every single person can find time to work for the New Evangelization. You don’t need to be a professional! There’s a place for everyone on the Digital Continent and we want to help you find your place.

We hope to see you at CatholiCon this year.

CatholiCon begins from two separate directions. First, Joshua, who is our business magnate, and Fr. Chris Decker, who visualizes space and time, have a sit down with the big men who run the venue where we have the event. They exchange big words and big ideas that Fr. Ryan doesn’t understand and from this big talk emerges a date.

On the other side of the world, Fr. Ryan Humphries, that’s me, is sitting down at his computer and begins creating “The Working Documents.” These working documents are created in GoogleDocuments so that they can be easily shared with Fr. Chris and Joshua and Fr. Jason Vidrine and all of our other team leaders. “The Working Documents” cover everything from what the websites need to contain to theme development to organizational charts to the outlines of the ClareCamp presentations and Bar Camp meetings.

Once we have a venue and drafts of all of our working documents, the collaboration begins. We invite trusted friends of CatholicUnderground to take charge of major sections of conference planning. From that point until the conference begins, we’ll all meet regularly over Skype for status meetings and to exchange new ideas and insights in prayer.

Even though each person is in charge of one aspect of the conference, each of us will share ideas and suggestions and work together to organize the very best conference we can. As we put more and more of the conference together, we’ll keep you up to date on the behind the scenes details.
